Their aim is to make law and its principles more accessible to the general public through a wide range of events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The 2026 edition in Oslo will pay tribute to <strong>Ren\u00e9 Cassin<\/strong>, a leading figure in international law. One of the principal drafters of the <strong>Universal Declaration of Human Rights<\/strong>, adopted by the United Nations in 1948, and recipient of the <strong>Nobel Peace Prize in 1968<\/strong>, Ren\u00e9 Cassin \u2013 whose name was given to the French Lyc\u00e9e in Oslo \u2013 embodies values that are more essential than ever, in a global context marked by declining respect for human rights in many parts of the world and growing threats to peace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-accent-color has-text-color has-link-color has-normal-font-size wp-elements-43fa4d90182fbefc0ccdfdcd3ed09e0d wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Public conferences exploring contemporary human rights challenges<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Thursday 15 October 2026 | 10:15\u201312:10<\/strong><br><strong>Nobel Peace Center \u2013 Brynjulf Bulls plass 1, 0250 Oslo<\/strong><br><strong>Event in English | Free upon<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/ticket.nobelpeacecenter.org\/npc\/arrangementer\/law-day-2026\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>registration<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We are pleased to invite you to <strong>two panel discussions<\/strong> bringing together experts and engaged actors to explore the major challenges currently facing human rights and peace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The event will be introduced by <strong>Pierre-Alexandre Miquel<\/strong>, designated Ambassador of France to Norway, and <strong>Mich\u00e8le Ramis<\/strong>, President of the French National Commission for UNESCO.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The first panel will address the theme: <strong>Human Rights and Peace: Building a Legacy for Future Generations<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The discussion will bring together:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Kjersti Fl\u00f8gstad<\/strong>, Director of the Nobel Peace Center;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Emmanuel Decaux<\/strong>, President of the Ren\u00e9 Cassin Foundation \u2013 International Institute of Human Rights;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Kristoffer Lid\u00e9n<\/strong>, Researcher at PRIO.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The discussion will be moderated by <strong>Maria Gabrielsen Jumbert<\/strong>, Researcher at PRIO.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The second panel will focus on <strong>UNESCO Procedure 104<\/strong>, a unique and little-known mechanism for the protection of human rights within the multilateral organisation, whose use could be further encouraged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The speakers will be:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>H\u00e9l\u00e8ne De Pooter<\/strong>, researcher in public international law and professor at Marie and Louis Pasteur University;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Alexandre Navarro<\/strong>, Secretary-General of the CNFU;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Isabelle Desvignes<\/strong>, Director of the Institut fran\u00e7ais de Norv\u00e8ge and former Deputy Permanent Delegate of France to UNESCO.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-accent-color has-text-color has-link-color has-normal-font-size wp-elements-0782dfb6299847c47e4e0e97b7184b8e wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>A day also dedicated to younger generations<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Alongside these public conferences, students from the <strong>Lyc\u00e9e fran\u00e7ais Ren\u00e9 Cassin d\u2019Oslo<\/strong> will be welcomed at the <strong>Nobel Peace Center<\/strong> for a tribute to the figure after whom their school is named, as well as a presentation on the importance of the <strong>Universal Declaration of Human Rights<\/strong> for world peace. They will also visit the museum, whose exhibitions invite visitors to reflect on peace and promote dialogue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The 2026 Law Day will also provide an opportunity to celebrate the <strong>Lyc\u00e9e fran\u00e7ais Ren\u00e9 Cassin d\u2019Oslo\u2019s<\/strong> admission to the <strong>UNESCO Associated Schools Network (ASPnet)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The network brings together nearly <strong>10,000 schools in 167 countries<\/strong> around a shared objective: to build the defences of peace in the minds of children and young people.
