A Look Back at the 2026 European Heritage Days

To mark the 2026 European Heritage Days, EUNIC Norway has joined forces with the International Alliance for the Protection of Heritage (ALIPH), Kulturvernforbundet and the French Embassy in Norway to organise an evening dedicated to the protection of cultural heritage in times of conflict.

The event was introduced by Pierre-Alexandre Miquel, the designated Ambassador of France to Norway

At the heart of the round-table discussion ‘Heritage at Risk: Revive, Resist, Reimagine’, several heritage professionals discussed the practical requirements for effective protection: the ability to act swiftly, strong local partners, access to the necessary expertise, and resources that can actually reach those working on the ground.

Panel discussion with contributions from Vianney Basse, Director of Development and Strategy of ALIPH; Erik Lillebråten, Director of the Norwegian Heritage Foundation (Norsk Kulturarv); Katrine Brekke (moderator), Senior Advisor at the Kulturdirektoratet
Opening of ‘Portraits of Women – Beyond the Stones’, a photographic exhibition by ALIPH dedicated to women working around the world to safeguard endangered cultural heritage.

We are delighted that the exhibition Portraits of Women – Beyond the Stones, presented as part of this evening’s event, is now on display on the railings of the French Residence in Oslo (Drammensveien 80, Oslo).

Through a series of portraits, the ALIPH exhibition celebrates women from around the world who are committed to safeguarding cultural heritage under threat: architects, archaeologists, curators, site custodians, craftswomen, art historians and conservators.

Their careers bear witness to the expertise, commitment and courage required not only to preserve monuments, sites, collections and traditional skills, but also to ensure the transmission of a heritage that is essential to the memory and identity of communities.

We strongly encourage you to go and see the exhibition, which runs until the end of September!
