French+Gastronomy summer school

Apply from January 15th until February 15th

A new French+Sciences summer school opens in 2024! Focusing on gastronomy, you will discover the techniques of great chefs, meet producers and food professionals, while learning the French language. All of this taught in the country of wine and gastronomy and in one of the most renowned schools worldwide, l’Ecole Fauchon. If you aim to become a professional chef, don’t hesitate for a second and apply!

French + Gastronomy is a 3-week programme which combines French courses, cultural discoveries and exciting workshops in the hotel and restaurant industry.

This programme isbuilt in the heart of Rouen, a city in Normandy rich in history and culture. Rouen is also the first French city to be designated a “Gastronomic City” by UNESCO. As the birthplace of Impressionism, Rouen is one of the French cities with the most historical monuments per square meter and offers learners an authentic destination, full of discoveries. The city is proud of its geographic position, in a region known for its gastronomy and local products.

The partnership between Campus France, l’Ecole FAUCHON and the FLE center French in Normandy brings together the best of French gastronomy with the reputation of a school that has received the “Quality FLE” Label and the “Study Travel” Awards. In addition, the city of Rouen adds an exceptional touch to this programme thanks to the wealth of cultural activities offered by the Metropolis and the Region.

French+Gastronomy will take place in Rouen from 17/06 to 05/07/2024. By taking part in French+Gastronomy, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Benefit of the expertise and teachings of the Fauchon School:
    • Participate in hands-on cooking and pastry classes;
    • Enjoy a wine tasting experience;
    • Meet with artisan chocolate makers, cheesemongers, market gardeners, fishmongers, wine waiters, etc.
    • Discover the hotel industry through visits to prestigious establishments;
  • Discover Normandy’s treasures by visiting 2 of the most important regional tourist sites;
  • Acquire or improve your communication skills in French;
  • Share this experience with other international students from all over the world;
  • Validate 6 additional ECTS (European credits), recognised by your home university.

  • Any young person over the age of 18, who is interested in gastronomy, wine and the hospitality sector;
  • Any English-speaking student (a B2 level is required) who may be a complete beginner in French.

If you are eager to self-finance your French+Gastronomy stay, registration is done online directly on the website of French in Normandy. Pay attention, places are limited to 16 participants. Registration deadline: March 31st, 2024 (23:59)!

The French Embassy in Norway will award up to 10 French+Sciences/French+Gastronomy scholarships to its best applicants for the 2024 edition. 

French+Sciences scholarships cover all costs:

  • The cost for the programme (French classes and cultural activities);
  • Accommodation (housing in university residence);
  • International transportation (round trip Norway / France);
  • Living allowance / Pocket money (amount to be determined);
  • Insurance (including liability insurance).

The call for applications is open from January 15th until February 15th, 2024 (23:59). Results will be communicated by the end of February 2024.
